It aims to raise awareness of the challenges and issues faced by men while celebrating their positive contributions to society. The day promotes gender equality and addresses topics such as men's health, mental health, fatherhood, and positive male role models. Through events and initiatives, International Men's Day provides a platform for open and constructive conversations about masculinity, encouraging men to reflect on their roles and responsibilities while challenging harmful stereotypes and societal expectations. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of nurturing the next generation and teaching young boys the values of respect, empathy, and integrity. International Men's Day encourages collaboration and collective action to create a more equitable and inclusive world where all individuals can thrive.

"Wade in the Water: A Community Conversation l Your South Florida. From our beautiful beaches to swimming pools and backyard canals, South Florida is surrounded by water. But for children and adults who can’t swim, the consequences can be deadly - with the Black community at a greater risk for fatal drownings.
We journey through history to reclaim what was once denied. The summit sheds light on the historical legacy of racial discrimination in swimming and water access, acknowledging its impact on our communities. Through candid conversations and insights, we aim to understand the past, heal wounds, and pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable aquatic future.

Water has a profound impact on mental wellness. Its serene presence, whether in the form of a tranquil lake, rhythmic ocean waves, or a soothing bath, can offer a profound sense of calm and relaxation. Engaging with water-based activities often promotes mindfulness and stress relief, fostering mental clarity and emotional well-being. Whether it's through meditation by the water's edge, a leisurely swim, or simply the sound of rain, water holds the power to soothe the mind and nurture mental wellness.
The park is named for late civil rights activists Von Mizell and Eula Johnson, who first pressured Broward County (for years) to have at least one beach for African Americans, then led wade-ins in Ft. Lauderdale in 1961 that led to desegregation of the county's beaches the following year.
